Background

Broughshane Primary School is situated in the village of Broughshane, three and a half miles north east of Ballymena. St. Patrick’s Primary School is situated in the village of Loughguile, eight miles east of Ballymoney. Geographically, the schools are fifteen miles apart and both in rural communities.

At the outset of this project both schools had been in partnership for four years under the previous CRED programme. As a result, very strong relationships had been established between both schools, involving teachers and pupils participating in the programme. All classes at KS2 level had been involved in projects aimed at deepening relationships amongst pupils and teachers, as well as enriching aspects of the school curriculum linked to yearly themes.
